Have a wonderful holiday weekend! It’s strange this will be our first Christmas away from home but good thing we have FaceTime. We will be chatting with the fam all weekend. Can’t wait to see the nieces. Ok, now its time to go eat, drink and by merry!

During the winter months I gravitate toward richer, spicier cocktails. Don’t get me wrong you don’t need “winter” to enjoy these flavors. However, there is something about the spices combined with the sweetness from the citrus that is perfection. We have been enjoying this little sipper quite a bit lately. All in moderation of course.

Bourbon with Ginger Beer & Citrus

1.5 ounces Bourbon

Ginger Beer

1/4 orange wedge

Orange peel

Ice

Fill a 9 oz. tumbler with ice. Add bourbon, juice from 1/4 of an orange. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with an orange peel. Serve.

Our First Thanksgiving Away.

This will be our first Thanksgiving away from our families and the first time I had to do all the cooking. I am so excited to make a feast for two. Since we are not with our families this Thanksgiving, I thought I would make one of James’ favorites holiday treats. . . Pumpkin Bread.

Pierini Pumpkin Bread

Makes two loaves

Combine:

4 eggs, lightly beaten

2 cups canned pumpkin

2/3 cup water

2 tsp vanilla

1 cup margarine or butter, melted

Sift togethe:

2 cup white sugar

3 1/2 cup flour

1 tsp iodized salt

1 tsp fresh ground nutmeg

1 tsp cinnamon

2 tsp baking soda

1/2 to 1 cup chopped walnuts

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until well blended.

Pour into two greased and floured loaf pans to 2/3 full.

Bake at 350 for 45 min to 1 hour. Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center.

Serve with butter, whipped cream, cream cheese frosting or Cool Whip. Yep, I said Cool Whip. Ha! It’s my husbands favorite and I am only going to let it slide this time.

* I substituted the cinnamon & nutmeg for 2 teaspoons Pumpkin Pie Spice add 3 for extra spice.

Today is Friday and I couldn’t be happier. I am sitting here in a cafe surrounded by no one who speaks English. The rain is pouring outside so there is no rush to catch the subway. I am just working away enjoying the sounds of the espresso machine, dishes clinking and the beautiful accents. I needed a moment like this to appreciate where I am.

It’s That Time Again. . .

The company I worked for in Sacramento has allowed me to work remotely for them and I am pretty excited!I have been working out of coffee shops and a friend’s house making it pretty difficult to get into a rhythm. (I will blog again someday, I promise!)

Just today I stared to feel a little more at home in New York. I can’t wait to have my office space set up and ready to go. It is going to take some time to get everything in its right place but I am starting to feel a little less stressed out! With that said, all the hangin out in coffee shops I noticed the PSL is back. Here is a link to my Pumpkin Spiced Latte recipe I perfected last year. Enjoy, the taste of fall!!

First “Taste of the Weekend” in New York!

Wow, I can’t believe I’m finally here! It has been quite the journey and I feel I am just getting my feet wet. I arrived on Thursday and hit the ground running. As soon as I landed James and I met with a broker and started looking for apartments. I could do a WHOLE post just on apartments (look for that post in the next couple of days). You won’t believe the places we’ve seen. We may however, have a place lined up! I will keep you posted on that!

Yesterday was the first day that we were able to hangout and actually have a conversation not about apartments. We hit up some fun spots and ate a ton of great food! What’s nice about NYC, is all the walking I have to do helps balance out my new eating habits! Ha!

Ended the weekend with a picnic in Central Park.

This adventure is just about to being and I am so over whelmed and excited at the same time! Today will be my first day taking the Subway by myself, wish me luck!

Well, the apartment is empty. My bags are packed and I get on the plane tomorrow headed for New York. I can’t believe its finally here! I haven’s seen my honey in 3 weeks and I can’t wait to start the next chapter with him. I’m just now starting to get excited and here is the only way I can truly show you what that looks like.

(ok, I just needed an excuse to post my favorite movie intro!)

James is officially a New Yorker!! He got there and hit the ground running! He is trying to find us a place to live but now we are thinking we should just sublet for a while. He doesn’t want to make the decision all by himself and I’am not sure I could either. We will just have to see what happens. In the mean time I will be packing and planing my little heart away!
